Yesterday I got floated to another department, one I have been to several times now so I know the routine and luckily they weren't that busy. It is a rehab type department in the clinic side. The exam rooms are kind of small compared to what I am used to and are stuffy. I went and got a patient yesterday and was "rooming" him for the doctor which was all good and fine except the man smelled so bad I had to leave the room before I was done putting all the info in the computer. He was nice, funny, and didn't look like he should smell. He seemed well groomed and the clothes looked clean, but gag me. I felt really bad for him and really glad I didn't have to stay in there any longer than I did. We couldn't go in the room for nearly an hour after he left. Do stinky people not realize how stinky they are? I know when I stink. I can smell me. It seriously was when of the worst people smells I have ever encountered and i have smelled a lot in my ten years of being an operating room nurse.
I got off a little early so I decided to try to run as it felt really nice out. I put on my shoes and my gear and ran one mile and thought this isn't so bad, it isn't that bad, it's not that hot. I feel good I could do this all day. Then I got to two miles and realized I had angered the sun by thinking that because suddenly I was so freaking HOT! So I returned home, but made sure I did an even three miles. I couldn't believe how sweaty I was.
And I was right it did get hotter while I was running! When I left it was only 77 and when I got back it was 85 degrees! It felt good to get it in and my legs were feeling pretty good despite the heat I did it in 25 minutes and discovered that it would take me about 8 loops around my driveway to do one mile.

Happy Thursday it is off to work for me. Kids last day of swim lessons YAY! Sorry to be so lame and have no pictures today :( I promise to do better tomorrow!
Have you ever angered the sun?
I knew exactly what you meant when "He was nice, funny, and didn't look like he should smell." I feel so bad for feeling the way that I do especially when they are so nice. I don't know how they don't know. Maybe their entire house stinks and they are used to it. I go see a man to check his CPAP machine and the dog pee smell can knock over a sumo wrestler! It is horrible. Then when people smoke....ew.
ReplyDeleteI had a classmate growing up that always had an unbearable BO odor - even from 1st grade! I felt bad for him, but it really was intolerable. I wonder how the doctor that had to see the stinky man did? Did you warn him first? :)
ReplyDeleteI think I may have angered the sun on Saturday. My friend and I encountered about 4 different types of weather in the course of a 12 mile run - first it was cool and calm, then the wind picked up and it started to rain and looked like a big storm. Then the clouds blew away quickly and it got calm again. The last 4 miles the sun came out and there was no breeze anywhere. Brutal!
Poor stinky dude... and poor you! I wonder how he could not 'know'. Hmmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteSorry you made the sun made. I apparently did too because it was crazy heat wave when I got to NY and it ended the night I left. :)
Um, gross! I'm not sure that smelly people really know how bad they smell, which is why I think they smell in the first place.
ReplyDeleteNice job on the run! Running in the heat is seriously tough but it always makes me feel good to finish. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that's totally unfortunate about smelly dude. I couldn't hack it, i'd break down and be like, "ummm, you need to re-check your deodorant man."
ReplyDeleteAnd I think someone angered our sun down here in the flats, because it's just pissed 24/7.
I always get stuck next to stinky people when I line up at a race start. Do some people not wash their lucky race shirts??
ReplyDeleteI have encountered this stinky situation too many times on public transportation. Just because a person looks like they can afford to shower regularly with soap doesn't mean they do.
ReplyDeletegreat job on the run!
ReplyDeletePoor stinky dude. I can smell me, and when in doubt, I just flat out think I stink and do something about it. Maybe he is so used to his smell that he doesn't realize he is stinking?
ReplyDeleteHaha I SO believe in Karma, I live in fear of angering the running gods! Now I'll fear angering the sun as well! I don't get it either, I can always tell when I smell, I mean I might not address it right away, but I sure wouldn't go see a doctor like that! We used to have a customer when I was a waitress that we'd fight to the death over who had to wait on him, you could smell him a mile away....almost 10 yrs ago and I still remember the smell....
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the pics in your last post. You are too cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd that is crazy about the stinky man. I don't understand how people can't smell themselves either. Or that someone close to them doesn't help them out.
Good job on a speedy run in spite of the angry sun =)
I feel your pain regarding stinky dude. I'm a social worker and encounter stinky people on a regular basis. That part's definitely not fun!
