Now what to do?

I have not run yet since the half marathon.  I am a little sore in my quads, calves, transverse abdominal muscles  and my trapezious muscles.  I have been on my elliptical 40 minutes Monday and 20 minutes Tuesday.  I also did a BodyRock workout both days.  I keep thinking a should be resting but I just have all this energy and want to do something!   I did the Abs Now Workout Tuesday and the Workout For the Lovers Monday.  Today I am hoping to venture out for an easy run.  The next two days will be rest days as I have to go to work.  Then Saturday I have a 5k race.  It will be the last race on my schedule for the year.  I find that a little sad and a little relieving after having such a busy racing schedule the last 6 months.  It will be nice for awhile to just enjoy my runs and not have any pressure on myself to get in speed workouts and long runs.

I am looking forward to resuming 4 or more Bodyrock workouts a week.  I have only been doing 1 or 2 a week just due to busy running schedule and not wanting to be sore or tired for races.  What I am not looking forward to is winter and running in the snow and freezing wind and icy roads.   :(  Seems like I waited all winter last year for it to be spring and now October is coming and it always snows in October at least one big heavy wet one and it is all downhill from there.

I just started reading Chi Running.  I got the book a month ago but didn't want to start reading it until after the half marathon.  I didn't want to mess with my form so close to a big race.  I am finding the book interesting so far.  Anyone out there read it or practice Chi Running?  I would love to hear about anyone's  personal experience with it.  I think I will try it out next week and see how I like it and how different it is from how I run now.

Yesterday was my son's 5th birthday.  5 years old.  So hard to believe, seems like just last week I brought him home from the hospital, totally amazed they just let you walk out of there with a baby when you have no idea what you are doing with one.  Putting on a diaper felt awkward. I wasn't good at swaddling him up.  I was so scared and excited and sore and happy.
My belly was like a basketball,  I look like crap and my belly was never the same.

Ready to go home

Sweetest little boy ever!
Feet barely reaching the stirrups.

What do you look forward to after a long training cycle?

What do you miss most when not training for a race?

Did you vote for me today for Team Refuel?
I would appreciate it if you did!  Thanks so much to everyone who has taken a minute out of your day to vote for me.

  6. I went to a seminar on Chi Running a while back and I think the main point is that you should be running from the strength in your core and when I thought about that during runs I noticed I actually sped up without even noticing!

After this marathon training is over I'm looking forward to doing more cross training like spinning and weight lifting.

  7. I have the Chi Running DVD and took a workshop - I'm still trying to master the lean, especially in speedwork but overall I think the focuses have helped me. Curious to hear what you think when you're done.

  8. Happy Birthday to the Little Cowboy. Love the pics and you look beautiful, carrying him!

    Voted for you again today.

You know that I am a Chi Running convert but not in the same running class as you that is for sure.

But since I have adopted the form and shortened my stride I have had no grief in my knee and I love that I can just use my lean a bit to pick up the speed or slow it down without changing the cadence AND I love that I now have definite strategies for the up and down hills... funnny, I am back to the flat, sealevel routes for a while, just when I have conquered the hills!

It may not even be anything too different... my husband naturally runs this way and I think lots of people do.

  10. He's such a cutie!!!

It is always a void when I'm done training for races. I am with you...I have too much extra energy. The training keeps me focused.

  11. I voted for you! I didn't make the team when I tried, but I am hoping you do and will vote as often as I can!! Woo!

I love your pictures - your son is precious and you do not look like crap in that picture - you look so pretty! :)

I miss training anytime I am not! I seem to run best when I have a race coming up.

  12. Happy Birthday to your son!!! He is way too cute for words. I will absolutely admit that I am looking forward to taking some time off of marathon training in Nov/Dec but I also hate it for the same reasons as you. Running in snow and being cold all the time is so not fun!

Voted for you from a few computers today!

  13. I'm only in my first "official" training period, but I already can't wait to have a bit of my time back, and get to focus on things besides running. Voted again today!

  15. Happy b-day to the little man! They grow up waaaaaay too fast. My traps have been getting sore a lot lately too, probably too much stress in my shoulders I guess.

  18. Happy Birthday to the little guy - what a cutie pie :) I feel like I always have to have some kind of race in the wings...something I'm training toward or I'm just not very good at keeping in a training mode.
