I ran in the snow yesterday. I guess I am more hardcore than I used to be because I would have wussed out before, but the day was way to nice out to stay inside and miss out on the sunshine. It was 35 degrees out, which felt really good once I got running, so I ran 10.5 miles with my little dog. The biggest hazard was looking out for frozen cow pies hiding in the snow and intermittant patches of mud. I ran in a field and followed someones tracks through the field.
Except where the tracks had drifted over, then I plowed through the snow and got some in my shoes. I am thinking I may go back to Costco and pickup a set of the gators I saw there.
My feet were soaked by mile 5 and by the time I was done I had two new blisters.
I did remember my orange hat just in case any hunters were around. Pretty sure the coast was clear. I saw no deer, no hunters, no anything until about half a mile back to my Grandma's house and then I saw cows. They were restless. I think they had an inkling that weaning, shipping, and preg testing were coming up soon.
I got the blue shirt at Costco. It has thumbholes and is made out of recycled plastic bottles. I love it. i love Costco. I find some of the best stuff there. Both shirts I have on I got threre this year. It was the perfect shirt to wear today. I was even a little toasty at times.
What is your favorite Costco find?

I seriously need to try Costco out--people seem to find the most amazing stuff there!
ReplyDeletethat run looks so pretty! I would definitely get the gators - I can just imagine how cold your toes must have been by the end of the run!
ReplyDeleteI try to avoid Costco because it's always so busy, but for some reason when I do go I always bring home some pajamas for the kids...
We don't have a Costco but we have a BJs...I find such cool foods there. I really need to check out the clothes though! I do believe that running 10.5 through the unplowed snow is hardcore!
ReplyDeleteyou are hard core!
ReplyDeleteWe have BJs here (I think there's a costco too, but it's so far away). I've never actually looked at the clothes there. Maybe I should...
Wow! You already have lots of snow. I think that I might get some gaitors this year too. I didn't realize that Costco had them, I will have to check this out!
ReplyDeleteGet the gators, they changed my winter runs-- I just got back from 4 miles of fluffy and slippy snow with a big smile on my face and a toasty fire ;)
ReplyDeleteYay Winter Running
Um, you are hard core! I was bundled up to go outside today {two long sleeves and gloves and an ear warmer} and it was 45 degrees here, LOL. I am a wimp in the cold. I'm not sure I could handle living in / running in the snow! You rock :)
ReplyDeleteLast fall I got a really comfy long sleeve tech half zip shirt from Costco. I always forget to check when I am there though for new stuff :)
Definitely hardcore!
ReplyDeleteI have a BJs nearby but I've never checked out the clothes...think I should!
ummmmm did I see bare ankles! and snow....you are so brave. your winter run posts are really getting me excited for when I run outside. I just got a new phone for run photography too! so excited....
ReplyDeleteI don't have a costco membership. I should get one
I got those Gators at Costco but haven't tried them out yet. How can you go wrong for $15? I hope they still have them for you!
ReplyDeletegirl you are so hard core running through a field of snow like that! awesome!!!!
ReplyDeletejust looking at this post made me cold! you are awesome!
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes! Running in the snow is super crazy. One of my races was in the snow once and I swore to never run in the snow again. I was miserable the whole time!!
ReplyDeleteCostco seriously is the best. I go on a weekly basis and have found some pretty good basics there!
I live in upstate New York, so we have snow on the ground from December through March. In the winter, I wear a regular pair of running socks, and then layer wool socks over it. Works like a charm, and my feet stay warm and dry. I just bought a pair of the new Brooks Ghosts which feature Goretex. I'm planning on trying them out when the weather really gets sloppy!
ReplyDeleteI love Costco. I could not choose one thing I love the most! But in the running department I have to say I love the prices of the pickles!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you got that shirt at costco and it has thumb holes and is made of recycled plastic bottles. WOW. I need to get my butt over to costco to check out their clothing.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are so hardcore running in the snow. Not sure if I've ever done any snow running and don't know if I ever will!
You are pretty hardcore. I am glad you like that shirt from costco I have been eyeing them. I better get on before they are gone.
ReplyDeleteouch, my feet are freezing and hurting just looking at all that snow! i had to Google 'gators' but those definitely sound like they'd be nice :)
ReplyDeleteOh boy I hear ya! Many a times I tried to run in snow and it was a disaster! My feet were wet and I was going at a total snail pace because my feet were slipping.
ReplyDelete1 - you are so hardcore. I will not be running in the snow like that. Exactly why God created treadmills! Haha.
ReplyDelete2 - Costco is awesome! Love love love it.
That shirt is neat. Wonder if my Costco has them.
ReplyDeleteI used to wear gators when I snowshoed and cross country skiied but never thought of them for running.
I would wear light socks under wool socks to keep my feet dry and warm.
Love that your dog will run that far with you.
OMG you are totally hardcore...I do not run in the snow or ice or below 30 degree weather lol I am not a fan of running in the freezing cold lol Good job!
ReplyDeleteI <3 Costo....... They do get some great running clothes in....... Don't like that I always leave about $300 lighter :(
ReplyDeletebeautiful!!!!!
