I was excited to get to review a Gelbot. I had seen them on the internet and thought they looked pretty handy. Scott from Outside PR was awesome and sent me one as well as some yummy GU flavors I had not tried before.
Perfect.
I got to try the Peppermint Gu. Love it! I wasn't sure I would it seemed like an odd GU flavor, but it is yummy!
Chocolate Raspberry Roctane and Island Nectar Roctane were the two other flavors I got to try. I am a big fan of Roctane. Maybe it is all the caffeine but I also notice a big energy boost on Roctane.
I like both of those flavors as well.
The Gelbot is pretty simple. You disassemble all the parts to clean it. I love that part I was worried about trying to clean leftover GU out of it. No problem though. It is very easy to clean.
The energy gel goes into the inner chamber. You can fit two GUs into it.
Snap it back into the lid, push the bottom stopper up. This is what one GU looks like in it. So maybe you could fit more than 2 in? I didn't try. My runs aren't long enough to justify it.
Then, go run! or bike or whatever. I love that it fit into the handheld carrier I already had. It made it easier to run with. The bottle holds 24 oz of water or there is a smaller one that holds 20 oz.
I found it a little hard to suck out the gel, but that was probably because the three times I have used it, the temperature outside has been below freezing. Cold temps make for thick hard to move gels! I still was able to get all of the gel out and the water when I needed it.
So how does it work?
To get the gel out push the mouth piece down, to get out water pull the mouth piece up. The mouth piece is easy to push up and pull down just using your teeth if you need to.
I give it a two thumbs up! Hydrapak makes the Gelbot and they have some other really great ways to hydrate yourself as well. You should check out their website if you are looking for new hydration carriers while you run, hike, or bike!

Here is how you can enter!
I was sent this Gelbot free of charge to review and was in no other way compensated for this review. The opinions expressed are my very own. Review ends on 12-09 I will announce the winner on the 10th.
I would love one of these! Now I use my Camelbak if I'm doing a long out/back or loop, but prefer to do a few out/backs on the trails or road and switch out my bottle.
ReplyDeleteThese look so cool! Would make fueling so much easier not having to deal with packages and water bottles seperately!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try one of these. I never run with water or gels, maybe I just need to run farther!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try these for myself! Right now I run with a cheapie plastic water bottle I won at a raffle years ago. Until recently, I've only had water (that's all I needed), but as I increase my milage I find I need better nutrition options DURING my run.
ReplyDeleteI would totally love to try that. Gu is the only thing my stomach can handle when I run...
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really cool! I'd love to win won!
ReplyDeleteI am TERRIBLE at hydrating on long runs---and if I do, I definitely never remember both gel and water. This would be awesome for my tri races too!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try this! I usually bring a fuel belt on long runs and have recently been thinking about trying a handheld.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try this. I have the hardest time opening gels while running and cold, this may be a better option.
ReplyDeleteI'm big about hydrating and fueling, especially if I'm doing a run longer than 10 miles...so this would be perfect for the upcoming marathon training season!
ReplyDeleteI use my Nathan hydration belt on super long runs.
ReplyDeleteive seen these before, they look awesome!! i use a nathan hydration belt for long runs and races because im not coordinated enough to run with a paper cup and not spill it everywhere
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! Looks pretty outside.
ReplyDeleteon long runs i take either my handheld 8 oz. and re-fill, or my 4-bottle fueldbelt :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks cool. My water bottle has a little zippered pouch which nicely fits gels, but I fail at getting it from there into my mouth - has anyone else ever cut the crease of their mouth with one? No? just me? ok! :P
ReplyDeleteThat looks really cool. What a great idea! I'd love to try it.
ReplyDeleteWay cool. I always run with water in my hand and then tape gels to the bottle or wear a spi belt. This would be way better
ReplyDeleteThis looks really cool... but i'm confused on how you get the gel and the water out separately...
ReplyDeleteThey look awesome!...Would love to give them a shot...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great way to carry it all. I am always shaky when I run so I have trouble opening gels and gus - so this would be useful.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm confused how it works...do you squeeze the bottle when the mouth piece is down to get the gel? I think I need to win this so I can figure it out :) haha.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try this. I always get my hands so sticky when I open gu's and it seems like this would be so much better.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to win one. I am confused about how the gel actually comes out though, it seems like it would be stuck in there. So that makes me want to try it even more!
ReplyDeleteThis is kinda cool. Being able to do Gels and hydrate at one time is so cool. I would like to try this.
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway! I'd love to try one of these.
ReplyDeleteRight now I a wear a fuel belt that holds a water bottle... have never tried Gu at all but really want to.
ReplyDeleteI *don't* hydrate on runs, which is exactly why I NEED to win!! =)
ReplyDeletelucky you!! two gu flavors ive never tried-peppermint and island nectars. sound symmmm
ReplyDeleteI wear a fuel belt to stay hydrated. This is a pretty cool invention. I would love to try it.
ReplyDeleteI've been patiently waiting for this giveaway since that snow shot was taken ;)
ReplyDeleteI use my Camelbak handheld on runs but I'd love to try this!
ReplyDeleteI normally use my camelbak-but the whole easy to get gel thing??? 100 percent better than digging into my shorts or pullin the safety pin off the packet! And then littering on the route???? I would never-and I wouldnt have to even worry about it with this!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting product! I would love to try it out!
ReplyDeleteOOOHhh - I'd LOVE the peppermint GU! I'd love to try out the Gelbot!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I think it might take some experimentation to figure out the correct water to gu load...
ReplyDeleteVery interesting idea... I think it might be tough to use. I don't normally carry a hand held, so not sure if I would like it.
ReplyDeletei love things with multi purpose... this would be sweet,..... oh and i follow your blog
ReplyDeleteI think that looks pretty cool! I need to give GU another chance. I usually use chews or chomps because gels make me gag, but I think they are probably easier to use, especially with that water bottle!
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway - definitely seems like a unique piece of gear and I'd be interested to try it. I fuel up on long runs with GUs (when I have them! I really should buy them more often) or plump, dried cherries that my in-laws buy...delish and real food!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Never seen one of these.
ReplyDeleteI love that orange hat and I am DYING TO TRY THIS GELBOT!
ReplyDeleteGel and water all in one, it's genious!
ReplyDeleteI have a couple hand-helds that I use for long runs. I usually just drink water. Whenever I've attempted using gels, my sweaty hands can't seem to tear them open, so this looks great.
ReplyDeleteI am following you blog! I love this water bottle and I seriously want to get one soon!!!
ReplyDeleteI bought a handheld bottle because I was dying in the summer heat -I had no idea how to properly hydrate. I think now I've found the perfect balance of Gu and h20 but it's such a pain to unwrap those things!!! I'm dying to try a gelbot for that reason!!
ReplyDeletei use a hydraclutch to carry water and then put gu in my spibelt. this would be a great way to combine the two!
ReplyDeleteVery cool invention!! I love anything that makes gels easier-I have a hard time opening them with sweaty hands. Plus the water combo seems very cool!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen that before but it's so cool. I love the idea of taking fuel and water in one thing, but still having them separate!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea. I take water and a Gu on long runs, then hate to stick the empty Gu wrapper back in my pocket or pouch. Problem solved.
