I wasn't sure if I was going to get out to run yesterday, the stars were not aligning! Finally the cosmic event happened and I got out the door with the goal of running the Hope Endures Virtual 5k. The 5k was in honor of the daughter Courtney at a So-Called Runner lost. Ashlyn passed away December 2, 2008.
I have had several friends that lost babies and it is a heart breaking thing. I can't imagine having to go through it and feel so blessed to have had two healthy babies that are now little children. I wanted to do this 5k to support Courtney.
It was so cold out that at the 2 mile mark I considered calling it a day and going home. The wind was freezing my nose and lips. I was feeling a little miserable and questioning why I was outside. I had already done a Bodyrock.tv workout and been on the elliptical for an hour. Did I really need to be running too?
At that point I was only a quarter of a mile away from my house, I even ran to my driveway, but then decided it wasn't easy for Courtney either or anyone else who has lost a baby and I didn't want to wuss out just because my face was feeling frozen, so I turned around and finished it. It was also the best feeling mile of the whole run.
Final time
If you want to participate tomorrow is the last day to do so. Check it out on Courtney's blog So-Called Runner .
I FINALLY got out the Christmas decorations yesterday. The kids had fun helping me set everything out. We don't have a tree yet. :( Hopefully soon! Then I can start putting presents under it!
Hope everyone is having a great Monday!
Awesome, Christy! So nice that you went out there and finished despite the nasty weather! I wish I could participate but I still can't run...going to get xrays on Friday! I love decorating for Christmas. have fun decorating the tree when you get it!
ReplyDeleteNice job pushing through! I would have wussed out and run inside. Then again, I do that even in normal temps!
ReplyDeleteGreat job doing the 5K! I almost just jogged it because I was tired, but then I was like "No! Doing this in a half ass way isn't acceptable!"
ReplyDeletegreat race! and happy belated 300+ followers! You never cease to amaze me with the weather you battle to run outside!
ReplyDeleteYou are one hardcore woman! Great job getting that run done and for such a great cause.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Bet you felt really good afterward, too. And coming inside where it was warm was that much sweeter.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great virtual race and what a great recap, it's very sweet and so meaningful! Nice pace too :) I think it's great that you did it and was able to stick it out in the cold!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job of sticking it out. What a great thing to race for. I couldn't imagine the heartache. What a great way to honor her daughter.
ReplyDeleteGood job getting out there! I ran this today too! Cold here but I don't think as cold as there.
ReplyDeleteOOh I wish I'd heard about this before, I could have joined in on the fun. Good for you, that's awesome for being so supportive. I would have probably had similar thoughts about pushing on because it certainly wasn't easy for the women who lost their babies and that a little chill during a run isn't the end of the world!
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to do this race on the last day because my Monday just got away from me and all I felt like doing was walking so 5K it is tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteGreat time btw!
What a great recap and good job for pushing through! I might have quit, but glad the hope 5k helped get you though! Thanks so much for running it with me!
