I was having a hard time finding someone to watch the kids yesterday so I could go for a run, but as luck would have it, my husband is self employed and was going to be around the house for a little bit. I scooted out the door as he warned me he needed to be leaving in an hour or so. This put a certain urgency into my run as I wanted to be able to get in 12 miles today, but could see it wasn't going to happen. No biggie.
So I decided if I wasn't going to get quantity I would make up for it with QUALITY! I did an easy warm up mile. Then ran down a big hill for half a mile, turned around and hoofed it back up. After that all my miles were under 8 minutes miles with the last one at 6:58, for a total of 7 miles in 55:56. The last two miles were into the wind even. It felt pretty good to push the pace and get out of my comfort zone.
I was pretty happy with my run.
Here is where I start whining.
What was not happy was just below my right knee on the inside. It started feeling uncomfortable during the 5th mile but then kind of worked itself out. After I sat down for an hour or so and then decided to do a Bodyrock.tv workout I got 5 mountain climbers into it and had to stop.
It hurt really bad. So I iced, compressed, and took an ibuprofen. I did some upper body exercises instead.
Not sure what the problem is. It doesn't feel in the joint or bone though, so I am guessing a soft tissue type that got inflammed. So I will try to run today, but rest if I have too. Sigh.
Who wants to take a rest day on a day off of work when it is 50 degrees out in January. NOT ME!
Besides..
I guess I can try my elliptical, if I HAVE to. It just is not the same as hitting the open road.
Wish me luck!

OH no! Hopefully it goes away! I sometimes get weird pains that last a few days and then disappear :)
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, speed racer! You're awesome.
ReplyDeleteHope your knee feels better!
After reading your pace for the 7 miles I feel like I need a day of rest! Hopefully your knee pain goes away!
ReplyDeleteYuck! I hope it's better today. I love that image - that's so me, too.
ReplyDeleteIknow what you mean. It's hard to control ourselves when the weather is so nice not to run outside. I sure hope your knee is better soon.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a workout! Good job! Hope the knee feels better - I was having issues a few weeks ago and it worked itself out.
ReplyDeleteGreat run! Now rest it! :) Listen to your body. I'm hoping that some ice and rest help you!!
ReplyDeleteUgh--knee pain! You are wise to take a day off even if you feel like the kid inside at recess while the others are all out playing (and hey, I know that shirt!). A little ice might help too. Hope it gets better fast!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are able to enjoy that weather pain free!!!
ReplyDeleteim sorry about your leg! ive been sidelined to the elliptical for 9 days now because of a sprained ankle. its growing onme and im getting ALOT of reading done, but i am dyyyying to go out running again
ReplyDeleteHey, get out and enjoy that 50F even if you can't run today.
ReplyDeleteBut of course I do hope you can! :)
I hope your knee feels better:(
ReplyDeleteoh boo I am sorry that happened and hope that you are feeling better today so you can run. its 60s here and I am loving it but have no one to watch the girls so I can run :(
ReplyDeleteI've been lucky enough to not really have knee pain but I'd say it could be runner's knee-which isn't usually serious and can easily be worked out. Definitely keep up with the ice and take some ibuprofen (if you don't have any health issues) to help keep down inflammation!
ReplyDeleteI hope that maybe a rest day or elliptical day took care of it!
ReplyDeleteyuck - I hope it's just a temporary thing! Listen to your body and don't push it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who has a husband who puts time limits on their runs :)
ReplyDeleteHope the knee feels better!
ah this sucks
ReplyDeletehad to use the elliptical today because too much pain in both my feet Plantar F. I hate it!
Nice job on the run! As for crankiness, listen to the body crankiness- injuries will make for longer non running crankiness!! Ice, Ice, Eliptical, Ice!
ReplyDeleteI feel ya girl. I am going on 32 days of no pavement and it is killing me. If there is any pain I would really take a REST day. Better to rest it...than be out for a prolonged period of time.
ReplyDeletethat's awesome I didn't know you had an elliptical and you're right it's not the same as the open road, especially for you, when you are used to having all that land to run along :)
ReplyDeletetake care of that knee lady! one day off may make you cranky, as it does me, but having to take weeks or months off because something more serious would be terrible.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope it's something minor and you feel better quick
ReplyDeletehope your knee gets back to normal quickly!
ReplyDeleteyikes! i hope your knee is feeling better soon :)
