What makes 30 degree weather feel warm?

I can't find my camera.  Not sure if I should be blaming myself or the kids.  Probably myself.  Even if it was the kids I should know better than to leave it somewhere they can reach it as my daughter loves to snap photos.  Maybe I need to get her my own camera so she will leave mine alone. It could be out in my car, but as it is 5 degrees outside I really don't feel like going out to look in it.  I don't have a garage.

I guess I could pray to Saint Anthony to help me find it.  It seems like such a material thing to pray for though. I guess I will have to use my crappy camera on my phone until I can find it.  It just tends to not take very good pictures of great moments

Like this one where my little cowpokes were all dressed up to play rodeo and were telling us a great story about who they were "Lightning"  and "Crystals"

I did figure out how to use the camera on my phone better, heck it even has a timer, but the quality just sucks.

It got all the way up to 10 degrees yesterday and I was considering just doing an elliptical workout, but then I kept reading about other people toughing it out and running.  So I layered up the clothes and got outside.

Yes, I am a competitive person.

I did 8.25 miles.  I have to admit my legs are feeling the horseback ride from Saturday and are a little sore and running in the powdery cold snow was at times running in loose sand.  I was pooped when I was done.  I was not however cold. Luckily the wind was at a minimum. I had on PLENTY of layers.  I probably could have had on one less shirt layer.

But now I can say that 10 degrees with a windchill of 0 is the coldest I have run in. :)  and it wasn't bad.  The worst thing really was the snow being like running in sand, although really that just adds to the workout.  I will do it again without so much hesitation.  Besides once you get used to running in weather that cold, I bet the 30s feel tropical!

have a great Tuesday everyone!

  1. we ran in 5 degree weather two weeks ago and were bundled from head to toe, 2 days later we had on shirts and tights with nothing else and were sweating. It was 32 degrees. It is amazing what feels warm in the winter. Good for you for running 8 after being on a horse the entire day the day before. you are hard core!

  7. I would die if I lost my camera but those cuties still look awesome with the phone cam. I don't think it really matters.

    Sweet cold run!

  9. NIce job. I am still to wimpy to go running in the snow. So, I'm stuck inside trying to figure out which video to workout to. You should definitely get your little one a camera. Maybe a budding photographer? My youngest loves to take videos so we got him a video camera for Christmas. He loves it!

  11. I'm ok with low temps as long as the wind is not blow like a bat out of hell.
Way to go on getting out there in those temps and the snow. I like running while it is snowing but my glasses dont like it. Makes it hard for me to see.

  14. Great job getting out there! I always feel about two inches taller after those hard cold runs (not the hot ones; they just make me feel like crap).

  15. Oh--I know what you mean about praying to find your phone. I don't pray for good times in races (even though I sometimes want to)--I figure God has better things to do than worry about my PR. :^)

  16. Brr!!! I don't know what the lowest temps is I've ran in. I know it was in the teens. Actually getting out there is the hardest part cause once i'm running I warm up in about a mile or two and then sometimes need to start peeling off layers cause I over dressed haha.

  21. I hope you find it, I'd pray to St. Anthony, that always works in our Italian family :)

  22. Your kiddos are so stinking cute!!! I hate when I can't find my camera. And you will be so much stronger for braving those elements. I am alway sin awe of my friend Jenn in MN when she runs in -6 temps. Ouch on the lungs!

  23. I don't mind running in the cold since my body usually warms up pretty quickly...as long as I don't stop and get shivers, but the lungs - yikes! It is definitely harder to run when it's so cold. Great job getting out there and doing it Ms. Competitive!!
