Kylie over at Daily Vitamin F is having a planking party and here is my submission. I see watching these I could work on my form a little but you get the idea.
Planking is a great way to build up endurance in the abs, back and stabilizer muscles.
The first one, well really all of them can be combined with pushups to make them even more work.

In this one I plank then touch either hand to foot, to knee, elbow to knee, or any combination in between, alternating sides.

and finally plank, then bring leg up outside body, tuck knee under body and finally cross it under the body. Tell me you can't feel the burn. To make it harder instead of putting foot on ground in between extend it strait back.

I went for a run today and forgot to bring my Garmin! Aack, my phone told me I was gone for about 91 minutes so I am going to guess that I ran about 10 miles.? i would say based on where I ran that is probably pretty close. I can't really map it out because some of the roads I ran on are field roads and don't show up on Map My Run. Sigh. It did feel good to just run by feel though :)
Have a great weekend. What is your favorite way to plank?
I am trying to plank well.. 5 kids and Umbilical hernia surgery. I'm working on it!
ReplyDeleteI want to join in on this planking!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to plank is to smoke salmon on it...just joking, kinda ;)
ReplyDeleteI love these and will try them. I am having trouble still with any core work because it aggravates the hip/psoas...but I love planks~ they are so good for stability...thanks for sharing!!!
I have just started the #plankaday Twitter challenge and so far am just doing a regular, basic plank.
ReplyDeleteI can do these ones you demo, although not as gracefully as you. But they are HARD!
You make them look easy, though, Christy.
these are AWESOME!!!! I need to pin this page. Look at you with your sexAY computer skills making pictures all animated ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh YOU.ROCK! Love those moves. If I do them, will I have your abs? Please?
ReplyDeleteMotivated to try new planks. Thank you
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start teaching a core class this week for 8 weeks at the club, so I need to start figuring out some new moves. My favorite (hated) plank is probably where you lift one foot and the opposite hand. My balance sucks! This is a hard one for me.
ReplyDeleteI love the last one also! it always feels so good!! Cute animated pics!
ReplyDeleteSo planking isn't just an Internet fad? Shows how much I know!
ReplyDeleteA lot of the planks you are showing we do in yoga. I love them and I need to do them more - I can tell its been a while when I don't do them! My back tells me! They are awesome and tough!
ReplyDeleteI need to incorporate plank exercises into my workout so thanks for sharing your favorites!
ReplyDeletewhat a great variety! i've been working on my traditional planks, but we learned the one you did first at a boot camp class last week, i'm working on it!! lol
ReplyDeleteThese planks you are showing plus the pace and distance you are running show that you are really fabulous and in an awesome shape!
ReplyDeleteI am just doing the regular traditional plank. It is hard. But is beats sitting on my bottom and doing nothing. :)
I love planks! I use them a lot on my Tuesday & Thursday strength workouts. Cool videos!
ReplyDeleteI love the gifs. Now I want to see one of you doing the funky chicken. Do you take requests? :)
ReplyDeleteLove these ideas! I usually stick to a normal forearm plank, occasionally lifting one leg at a time, and holding for as close to 2 minutes as I can get. But I need to add some variety!
ReplyDeleteI love these!!!! and I love planks. I have only just begun doing them this month but do tons of variations, including the ones you've posted. I've really noticed I difference in my core. I love plank rows with dumbbells and plank jump throughs
ReplyDeleteYes, planks are a GREAT way to get faster!!! I wish I made myself do them more often...
ReplyDeleteI need to start planking! Thanks for some good ones to try out when I get home tonight!
