1. I recently purchased this water bottle and was regretting the purchase as it was really hard to drink out of and I kept stopping and taking the lid off every time I wanted a good drink. I could swear I was following the directions that came with it and everything. It said to bite and pull to get a drink. I was! I was biting and pulling and squeezing and staying thirsty and frustrated. Apparently not far enough, I finally went to their website to complain and saw this picture.
Problem solved. I now like this water bottle a lot better, but still wish it had a normal cap on it like the smaller bottles I have from them that I use for my hydration belt. I hate running with something in my hands, but I have been trying to avoid using my hip belt since it seems to irritate my hip and I hate wearing it up higher.
2. I am having trouble commiting to a race this weekend. Originally I didn't plan on doing it as I thought it was two weeks before the marathon, but it is three and I feel pretty safe with that. Now I just can't decide if I should do the 5k or the 10k.
I am leaning towards the 10k but...it starts at 9am and the 5k starts at 8:30. I think this is a little backwards and they should start the 10k at 8 so we can get done before it starts to get hot. So I have been delaying registering until closer to race day so I can decide which race I will do based on the weather forecast.
I have until Friday to decide. I was leaning toward 5k, but now looking at this,
I am leaning back towards the 10k. Plus if I do the 10k I won't feel like I have to do more miles later or earlier in the day, just a warm up and cool down mile or two.
I bet you do like the bottle more now. You really hate holding something in your hands? I've been wanting to try something out like the nathan but I'm so entirely leary to put the $$ into something I might hate. I'm in love with my camelbak but feel silly with it sometimes for half marathons - but I've found it to be necessary for me. I think you should go with with the 10k!!! Best of luck to you.
ReplyDeleteGo with the 10K! 5Ks seem too short to me these days!
ReplyDeleteI used to hate holding my bottle in my hand but I have gotten used to it. I have a hard time with the belts because they are either too high or I feel like they are falling off. So...handheld it is! I would go with the 10k...Ummm is it really only 2 weeks left?!!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG I had that bottle for ages and yes the first few times I went out with it I was horribly frustrated..DOH!
ReplyDeletehow frustrating with the bottle, but I am glad you figured it out. I think I would go for the 10K.
ReplyDeleteI'd go for the 10k. It's one of my favorite distances. I've been considering a handheld but can't get past the thought that I don't want to carry anything while running. My husband carries his with such ease. He says he doesn't even notice that he's holding it anymore. It seems so convenient especially right now with the heat.

Too funny on the water bottle. We have three or four Ultimate Direction bottles with that top, and I love them. What I like best is that whether you leave the top in the up/drink position or down, it doesn't drip. So, lazy runner that I am, I just run with it drink ready. With other types of tops, I never seem to get an adequate seal - especially not when left open!
ReplyDeleteWith a marathon coming up, it sounds like the 10K is the better fit, but if you are worried about the heat, then definitely the 5K. :)
I enjoy my water belt, for me its a little tight on my hips and I think it works as a compression type thing. Haven't ran with a handheld in a while but going to give it another try on shorter runs since its getting so hot & humid! Go for the 10k so run will be complete for the day:)
ReplyDeletethat is tough about the race! i like the 10k distance better but you are definitely smart to take the weather into consideration!
ReplyDeleteThat is bass ackwards, isn't it? Why would you ever start a 5k before the longer races? Weirdness.... Good luck with whatever you choose!

I hate carrying water bottles when I run, that's why I switched to a hydration pack. That is hilarious about the water bottle, though. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteI always carry a water bottle when I run. It doesn't even phase me and after my 5k PR with Rex (the only race I've taken my own water) I'm convinced I prefer it. My camel pack back pack water spout it like that: where you have to bite it to drink. It's kinda annoying when you're trying to breathe too.....Maybe one day I'll master it ;)
ReplyDeletePS: love the new header.
I hate having a belt around my waist, too! I think it irritates my sciatic. Plus the bouncing annoys the heck out of me. I've had a handheld for the longest time ad love it! I love it even more than my Camelbak. I'd rather do a few outbacks from a trailhead on different trails switching the bottles than one long out back or a loop with the pack. That lid does look...interesting...I don't think I'd like it either...
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating about the bottle. I still don't care much for handhelds. What are they thinking with that race timing?
ReplyDeleteI have a Simple Hydration water bottle that you tuck into the back of your pants. It's awesome! I've worn it for races before and it was fine. You don't even notice it after awhile. I too hate carrying anything in my hands while running so its great when I don't want to wear my belt! I say 10k BTW!

ReplyDeleteMy friend has that water bottle and likes it- I am glad that you figured it out. :D
ReplyDeleteFunny about the water bottle :). I'd totally do the same thing. I have these favorite ones I like from REI, you have to turn the cap to open the drinking valve, otherwise every other one seems to spill on me. This one you have doesn't look like it would.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with whichever race you decide on :).
Your water bottle looks too complicated to me :)
ReplyDeleteGo with the 10K. Im sure youre going to kick arse either way though :)
Funny about the water bottle! Go for the 5k!! The quicker effort will make marathon pace feel easy.
