I got a box of Rainier cherries from Bountiful Baskets last week and spent some of yesterday canning them up. I had a lot of bruised cherries so I was a little disappointed by that especially since my sister said hers were awesome. I still got about 10 pints canned and a lot of them went into my belly.
I have been eating a lot of cherries lately, but they aren't in season very long and I LOVE cherries. That said eating a lot of cherries is not always compatible with early morning runs. You would think I would learn.
My Aunt gave the kids both a beta fish recently and this morning much to my dismay I discovered one of the fish bowls had cracked some time ago and leaked all over the antique dresser they were sitting on. It ruined the top of it.
Bummer.

ReplyDeleteAnd man, I should really start canning fruits and stuff. My Grams used to can tomatoes every year. It was like a big family thing too when she did it!
I think you can just sand and restain the top of the dresser, but that sucks.

I definitely think a light sanding and finding a matching stain should do the trick. (we have lots of antiques here)....LOVE cherries....but mine never make it to be canned. I always eat them before. :)

ReplyDeleteI have never heard of canning cherries. But I am not and domestic diva either so I don't can anything. lol I love cherries and usually make myself sick eating them when they are in season.

ReplyDeleteRainier cherries have been on my grocery list lately too. I love them more than the red cherries. I have never tried ones than have been canned but I am sure they are good! You will probably have to sand the area down and re-stain it. I don't think it is hard to do but matching the color might be a little challenging.

ReplyDeleteI love me some cherries as well. It's cool that your in the business of canning food also, because my husband and I did some canning last year and although a lot of work, it was well worth it!

ReplyDeleteMy stomach just turned a little bit when I saw the wood damage. I hope you can restore it! About your earlier question on motivation, I'm motivated by feeling fat! It's time to drop more of this baby weight. And, I miss that feeling of feeling free when I run. I want that back.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to can - totally reminds me of my grandmother. I take the lazy route and freeze all our excess summer fruits...but we're running out of freezer space:)

I've never canned anything. I usually just throw fruit in the freezer if I know it isn't going to get used up.

ReplyDeleteBummer about the fish bowl ruining the top of that dresser! Maybe you can just put a decorative doily there to cover it up haha
Is that dresser solid wood? If so, sanding it and getting the stain matched will work ok. If it is a veneer, I don't think you can sand much (depending on how thick that veneer is.) Good luck. That is a very nice dresser.

Those cherries look good. I have never tried canned cherries. I have eaten plenty of fresh ones though! (and regretted it later :)
