Sad because I have been so loving watching all those incredible athletes perform. My favorite moments
- Carrie Walsh and Misti May-Treanor winning gold again. I think they were my favorite athletes of the games. They really stepped up when the play got intense and kicked some butt.
- Michael Phelps. Sure he had a rough start but he overcame and ended on a pretty awesome note.
- Mo Farrah winning the 10k and the 5k. Great strategy and crazy effort paid off twice, I am sure those crowds rooting for him really gave an extra push too.
- Galen Rupp winning silver in the 10k.
- Shalane Flanagan and Kara Goucher at the end of the womens marathon. I didn't get up early enough to see the whole thing but I did see the last 20 minutes.
- Womens gymnastics team was pretty awesome. Gabby is such a cutie and McKayla was such an impressive vaulter. Even if she didn't win gold she knew it should have been hers, and would have been any other day.
- The womens swimming team also was very amazing. Missy Franklin was incredible to watch.
- The womens relay teams were crazy fast, I loved watching the 4x400 relay. Those girls knocked it out of the stadium!
The Olympics to me are so motivational. All the years of training and hard work that comes down to those 17 days. God medalists are remembered. Think Joan Benoit Samuelson and Carl Lewis. Mary Lou Retton.
I have to say I am also sad they only come around every four years, but I guess that is what makes them such a big dream and so awesome to watch.
I did two runs today about an hour apart mostly for babysitter reasons. I ran 5 miles before my husband left this morning and then took the kids to my sister's house and ran another 5 miles. They both felt pretty good although run 2 seemed to feel a little better.
What was your favorite Olympic moment?
like you i just feel like there were so many moments to choose from that i loved. just seeing recaps of the events/achievements keeps giving me chills! definitely the beach volleyball and also the marathons. i always really love all the swimming too! last night i was feeling so sad it was all over but then i realized how much time i would have during the day to actually get the things done i have been avoiding;) guess thats a good thing. haha!
ReplyDeleteFarrah in the 5K was awesome! I kept thinking, it's not gonna happen cause he's all the way in the back. And then he just zoomed forward. Great, great race!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the Olympics too! I have a soft spot for the equestrian stuff, but the track and field stuff was cool too! I loved seeing Carmalita Jennner run, man she's fast!
ReplyDeleteI loved all of it! This is the first time I can remember being absolutely GLUED to the tv for the Olympics, but maybe that's because I actually consider myself an athlete these days (and not just a big slacker...) :)

This is terrible to say but we hardly watched any of the Olympics this time. Once the media started ruining the results and what they showed in the evening never seemed to be the full event we stopped watching.
ReplyDeleteNice job on both your runs! I was just about to head out for a second run today and then thunderstorms started. It's still pretty dark out, thundering, and raining so I guess I'm done for the day unless I hop on the treadmill.
Carrie Walsh and Misty May Trainer was one of my favorite. I really enjoyed all the track and field to. Great job and getting both of those runs done. It would be hard for me to stop and than go back out for another 5 miles, so well done girl.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to watch as much track and field as I wanted to, but I loved Kara and Shalane at the end of the marathon. I'd say Galen and Mo after the 10,000 were my favorites. I need to get on and watch a reply of Meb getting 4th in the marathon and Mo winning the 5,000, too.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, Christy, I thought of you many times this week. We were staying on a cattle/horse ranch in SW Colorado. I don't know how many acres it was, but I did all of my running (one up to an hour!) on dirt/gravel ranch roads, through meadows, past inquiring looking cows etc. I didn't have to leave the property at all. It was some of the most beautiful running I've ever done, and I thought of how you do most of your runs like this. Even though the 8,400 feet of altitude got to me a bit, I loved it. I wish I could run like that all the time!
Swimming is my favorite as I swam in high school. Just learned US women won more gold medals than the men.
ReplyDelete29 for the women 17 for the men! Go girls!
While my country winning two medals (one bronze, one silver) is kind of a big here. One stat in particular really draws my attention: If the women of theUSA would have participated as their own country, they would have come in third in the medal standings.
ReplyDeleteI am glad and sad that the Olympics are over too! It was such a fun time but you are right, I found myself in front of the television at all odd times of the day trying to watch events! My favorite events were when MaKayla did her perfect vault and watching Kara and Shanae cross the finish line in the marathon, amazing!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that the Olympics is over so that I can sleep again. I was DVR'ing it but would still stay up and watch them anyway because I could not wait. Time to get some rest and get back to my normal sleeping pattern. I think we share a lot of the same favorite moments of the Olympics!
ReplyDeleteThere were so many amazing things that happened at the Olympics this year. I would have to say that Michael Phelps becoming the most decorated Olympian ever was pretty cool. I also thought that Missy Franklin did spectacular and even think that at her age she could beat out Phelps someday. Loved watching the running events, especially the men's 10K and both of the men and women's marathon.
ReplyDeleteEven though I am sad that the Olympics are over, I am looking forward to getting back on a regular sleep schedule. Is that bad to admit?
my favorite moment is the women 4x100 finish.
ReplyDeleteI have others that I loved
michael phelps closing the olympic story with class and like the champ he is.
I am a fan of missy franklin, I told my boys that they need to find a gal like her when they are older!!
Wow, I can barely get motivated for ONE run! I applaud you for doing two!
