An Important Question Answered and One Asked

Yesterday I asked if anyone knew what a whiskey ditch was.  As of the time I wrote this no one answered in the affirmative.

In Montana if you go into a bar and order a whiskey ditch you are ordering a whiskey with equal parts water and ice cubes.  I didn't realize just how regional this was until I googled it and both definitions I found mentioned Montana.  HA!

I recently ordered this vest from Brooks.  I have been wanting a running vest for awhile.  I decided to go with a bright color.  This green is so bright in real life it practically glows.  I am so in love with it.  Yesterday was the first time I wore it and so far I really like it.  Although really yesterday was a little warm to test it out for.

I am also thinking about ordering another pair of cold weather running tights.  I liked the ones I got last year, so I may go with those again.  I think they were from Saucony, I just was not impressed with the zipper on the calf breaking so soon after I got them.  I still wore them all winter, I just would like another pair so I don't have to wash them so much, or wear them dirty so much.

Any great recommendations?

  1. I have the brooks ones that are for the coldest of weather. I forget what they are called but they aren't tights. They are pants and baggy but keep you warm no matter how windy and cold it is!! I have a brooks jacket for winter in that same color as yours and I just wore it last weekend for my half marathon :)

  2. That vest is AWESOME. It's super reflecty, too. I want!

I have an awesome pair of Brooks tights. I borrowed a pair of Kara's once and then immediately went out and bought my own. They are these: http://www.brooksrunning.com/Utopia-Thermal-Tight/220324001.020,default,pd.html?start=24&cgid=womens-apparel-tights-pants

  3. I did not know that term, so I am obviously not from Montana!

Love that vest. I really like vests in winter to block the wind and yet not overheat. As to tights--I got a great pair from Athleta last year. Just the right weight and they had a pocket!

  4. Two years ago, Target had what I consider to be the best running tights EVER. They are thin, but have that super fine layer of fleece inside, so they're warm without being bulky, and they don't make my legs feel naked in the wind like some tights do.. I absolutely love them! I had hoped they'd have them again last year, but no. Maybe this year? Otherwise, I may cry if mine get worn out before I can find a replacement pair that compares. Let's all hope they come back! (Or, at the very least, that there's a good sale elsewhere to at least compete with Target price-wise!)

  6. I love my NIKE pro tights- they are awesome, awesome, awesome! I have a pair of Brooks ones that I like too, but the NIKE ones always stay put on my hips.
Thanks for sharing what a whiskey ditch is. Not a huge fan of whiskey after some bad experiences, but my husband likes it.

  8. I don't think I've ever even seen anyone order whiskey before...so no "whiskey ditches" in my region!

  12. I like that vest! Does it have reflectors too? Because I was thinking of getting a reflector for runs in the dark, but if I can kill two birds... As for bottoms, I wear a super old (as in High School era) pair of black pants that I have no idea where they came from, as they don't have a tag any more! They work still!

  13. You look so cute as usual! My tights are ancient and I have only one pair. It's just not as cold down here as up there (except sometimes) so I find I can get away with capris most of the winter. I'll be curious what you buy, though!

Never heard of a whiskey ditch--regionalisms are cool.

  17. That vest is awesome! I need something bright like that!

I like my Brooks thermal running tights, but sometimes the zipper cuts me. I'd love to find a pair without zippers on the ankles!

  18. I have a pari of Under Armour cold weather gear tights that I love! I've had them for about 3 years and wear them when shoveling and sledding, too. They are more expensive, but they've held up well!!

  19. I only recently learned that the word "gritchel" is a colloquialism specific to a very small geographic area around where I grew up. I had no idea!

I have a pair of Pearl Izumi thermal tights I like ok. They are a little short in the rise, so I have to wear a top that's 100% long enough to prevent plumber crack after a few miles. If you get great recommendations, please pass them along!

I'm doing the opposite and looking for summer running clothes, a nice airy tank is on my list! But I know Icebreaker do some great run leggings - I love their Rush capris.
