Motivation Monday

What is my motivation today?  Getting healed up.  I have had hip issues since March/April first in the left, then both, post marathon left foot pain, random right foot pain, and now a right hamstring issue.  Not really the summer I was hoping for and with racing season drawing to an end here in Montana I am hoping to get in  a race or two at the end of September and maybe one in October.

I finally went to physical therapy last week and learned some exercises and stretches that will hopefully help my most chronic issue, the lateral hip pain.  SO TIRED OF IT.

I already hate my physical therapy exercises.  They are boring and feel like they take forever to do.  There are 11 exercises for each side.  3 sets of 10-15 on each side.  I about die of boredom halfway through them I have to keep reminding myself it is for the greater good of my running.

I am more of a high intensity interval kind of girl and slowing down for a workout is making me want to stab my eye out. Okay not really, but you get my point.

I want this to be me again.
and that is a little hard to do when constantly dealing with some sort of injury or the other.  SO for now being good, cross training and doing my exercises!

What is your motivation this week?

  1. I wish I could magic away all of your pains - you are such a running inspiration!

My current motivation to work out is coming back from holiday having eaten much too much yummy food! Need to work it off now :(

  2. I'm SO sorry. I hope you start seeing results, quickly, from the PT exercises. Maybe *that* will motivate you to keep on doing them.
Last week was so awful, running-wise, my only motivation is to make this week better.

  3. I know what you mean about PT exercises. I'm horrible about stretching, rolling, strength training, etc. I know I need to do it, but... well you understand.

Motivation this week? Live up to the "hard core" label that a triathlete gave me!

  4. Injuries are so frustrating! Just keep doing what you're doing and you will be back before you know it:)

  5. I know physio therapy excersizes are so boring. I hate to do them too. I've been feeling slightly sick and tired, so my motivation was to do a long run yesterday so I could feel mentally ready for my first 10K race next week.

  6. My PT stuff takes forever also and sometimes I just feel like skipping half but it does help so I don't !! :)

  7. Oh man, I'm sorry you're in pain! PT exercises are boring and tedious, but hopefully you'll be back and running pain free soon!

  8. I need some major motivation this week. Starting to get really frustrated with running right now which makes me want to punch a wall because I love running, but running injuries suck. Big time!

  9. I hate PT exercises so much, but I hate the PT bills more. I wish doctors could just give you a print out of exercises to do at home. Also, I feel like they rarely work.

I hope you're pain free soon! Hang in there!

  10. Hugs Christy! I am so sorry about the injuries. You are tough though and i know you will come back stronger and faster than ever. Hang in there and do those PT exercises even though they suck. :)

  12. You know I feel your pain! PT is like weight training for me...dull but necessary, like eating certain kinds of vegetables (except that vegetables are more interesting). For me, what helped was really calling on my imagination....remember your goals and picture them in your head as you do the hip circles or the clam shells or whatever they have you doing...it will help!

  14. Injuries really do suck... I've been battling knee conditions my whole life and tendonitis in both shoulders from being a butterflier and distance freestyler for 14 years... Then a near collision with a car a few years ago hurt my ankle, and that injury is trying to come back, but I refuse to let it.

I hope you feel better soon! As much as you hate the PT exercises, they'll definitely make you feel better!

  15. My motivation this week was being able to do the Color Run in Birmingham, AL on Labor Day with a couple of friends!! :)

Hope you get through your therapy without slapping yourself. :)
