Three Things Thursday

1.  I have offically become a 4-H mom.  My son joined the same 4-H club I was in for 7 years.  He is very excited about it, although he isn't a full fledged 4-H member until he is 8 and is instead a Cloverbud, which is like pre 4-H.    We went to our first meeting Tuesday night, my daughter went along and managed to make a new friend.

4-H has so many great things for kids to do and learn about as well as really awesome travel and leadership opportunities.  Cade thinks he wants to do archery, shooting sports, and show an animal at the fair.

Me.. I am a little nervous about all of the committees and meetings they kept talking about and wanting everyone to do.  YIKES, pretty much sounds like it could be a full time volunteer gig if you let it.  I think we are going to do a minimum and not get bunrt out too soon.

I took sewing, cooking, market steer, market swine, cat, vet science, and a few other projects.

2. Today was another awesome fall day run.  I even got my little sister to run with me for a little while.  We ran together for 2 miles, than I did another 5 and she went back home.  She is just getting back into running after a bit of a break so it was only three miles for her today.

SO fun to have someone to run with and talk to for a short while.  I think I could get used to it.

3. The worst thing about fall besides winter coming..FALL BACK.  I hate time changes.  I have been waking up at 4:30 every morning lately and am not looking forward to that being  3:30..  and bet I go to bed early for awhile until I get adjusted!

I like being up early in the morning, but anything before 4 am is just too early!

What do you think is the worst thing about fall?
Time changes...love em, hate em or don't even notice it?

  1. I LOVED 4-H- such a great program for kids to be involved in! I had dairy cows and also did clothing, fiber arts, photography & cooking. One year I showed brahma and had a rabbit. I have the best memories from going to the county and state fairs. I am even still very good friends with a lot of people that I met through the program. When I was in high school I did 4-H exchange where I went to live with another family one summer and then my exchange person would come live with me the next summer. I got to spend one summer in Kentucky, one in Kansas, and another in New York. I was even grand champion showmen at the Oregon State fair a couple of times :-)

  2. YES!!! 4-H is amazing! I have many more life skills than my friends because of it.

I was in it 8 years in Montana. I did sewing, knitting, embroidery, cooking, photography, child development, cat, dog, etc. etc. I learned how to be a public speaker in 4-H, and I even won the Demonstration Competition at 4-H Congress and got to go to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta.

  3. It is rather nice to have a running buddy!!! So happy for you.

& I dislike time changes. Especially since it still means dark earlier in the evening - which really cramps my running style.

  4. The worst thing about Fall in So Cal is Santa Ana winds + high temperatures + low humidity = wild fires. I always dread October.

  5. Translation please! What is 4-H? Is it a scouts-type group?
Sounds really good to share you run with your sister :)

    1. 4-H is a bit like scouts, but focuses on job/career-related things as much as the other parts that scouting focuses on. There are all sorts of different parts of 4-H that you can focus on including: showing animals, shooting sports, knitting-sewing-crocheting, cooking, and rockets (which I did as a city kid). The 4 H's stand for heart, hands, head, and health, and 4-H focuses on healthy living, all aspects of science, and being a good citizen in your local, state, and national communities. Where I live, here in western Nebraska, 4-H is really big and provides a lot of kids with new skills, social time, and a chance to prove themselves in some way. 4-H here is run through the university system, and I think is set up that way in other states too. Here's the link to the national 4-H website for more information. http://www.4-h.org

    2. Thank you - that makes a lot more sense now! We don't have it in the UK so I was a bit confused :)

  7. So excited for you and Cade in 4-H it's so good for the kids. I have some of my best memories of the boys at the County Fair showing cattle.

  8. Aww I'm sure all of you guys are going to enjoy 4-H and all the fun that entails. I hate time changes too and this one is going to be rough.

  9. I'm hoping to get Faith involved in the 4-H when she's older. We didn't have it when I was growing up because it was an urban area, but it's really active around here! I like the idea of her having so many activities, but that does sound like a lot of work for the parents!

  10. I really love fall, so I think the thing I'm going to dislike most about fall here is how short it will be. Isn't it great to run with a friend or loved one?!? I'm really missing my running bestie, but now she's in Boston and I'm in Alaska.

  11. I am not looking forward to "falling back" either! Shorter days means less running time for me! I guess that means I will have to try running on my lunch break if I want to run in the daylight lol

  12. The only thing I dislike about the time change is that all my midweek runs are done in the dark. But at least this year I have a treadmill, so that'll help some!

BTW, a few days ago, the first few sentences of a post about Cola showed up in my news feed, but when I clicked on it, it said the page didn't exist. I really hope that is all going to be okay. :(

  13. The only good thing about the fall time change is that you gain an hour of sleep that night!

  14. Cool that your son is doing 4h. Glad you got to run with your sister, maybe this will be a new trend:) I hate the time change! I also hate that it is so dark all the time, it really messes with my energy.

  15. totally agree about the time change... love the extra hour of sleep the first day, but after that it just feels like i'm getting up at 345... not cool!

  16. You'll be getting up at 3:30? Yikes! I'm with you, it sounds much worse than 4. I like to get up early, too. Have fun with 4H!

  17. I love fall, but I don't like fall back either--mostly because of having little kids whose bedtime gets messed up!

  18. I kind of dislike time changes. They take a few days for the kids to adjust to, and that's annoying.

  19. I was never in 4H but it was a big thing in our home town! It sounds like fun; I didn't realize there were so many different activities! I don't mind fall back -- Don't we actually get to sleep an hour more? Or am I confused?

Because I love hearing from you all!
