1. If you haven't already..don't forget to vote today! I already voted, I find absentee ballots way easier. I like to sit with the ballot and research the canidates and the issues a little bit. I could talk about some of them here, but not really looking for crazy people arguing with me so I won't :)
My husband keeps talking about how he hates the electoral college. I personally didn't really get what the benefits of it were and why our founding fathers thought it was such a good idea, but once I did a little research it really does make a lot of sense and I found myself defending it to my husband.
Benefits of the electoral college according to the websites I looked at include giving the minorites more of a voice, making canidates appeal to a wider audience not just trying to get a majority vote which would mean they could potentially ignore lower populated areas and minorites. It is also weighted somewhat in favor of rural areas, which is hard to see when my state only has 3 electoral votes and others have twenty and thirty some.
You can find it explained HERE and HERE
2. I have been on a bit of a kombucha kick lately, especially kombucha with chia seeds in it. I am not really a fan of the price of it though so I ration it out a little. It is supposed to have great health benefits which I guess I haven't bothered to look up yet. I do know I have been feeling really great lately. Coincidence?
Do you like the electoral college?
Do you know you are not really voting for the future president, but just some elector that says he will vote for canidate such and such but he could really vote for the other guy?
Are you a fan of kombucha?
I was just about to go out and vote. I kind of like your idea of absentee voting to research everyone on the ballot. Maybe next year. Then again, I'll probably forget.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how I feel about the Electoral College today, but it would be really hard to change it since it's in the Constitution. The Founding Fathers thought it would settle the argument between big states and small states back when they were debating the Constitution. States with less population were worried that they would have no voice whatsoever in the election, so the Electoral College was made to make it somewhat equaller. It also flowed with the idea that many people still favored states rights at this time. Also, the general feeling was that the overall population wasn't educated enough to completely make such a large decision themselves. Sorry for the mini-lesson, I'm a History teacher.. haha
ReplyDeleteI also like your absentee ballot idea!!
I voted so hopefully my husband remembers to drop off my ballot today. At least he has to drop off his and mine is laying on top of his on the counter. But you never knew....:-)
ReplyDeleteI am honestly just glad that today is election day so that I don't have to delete 90% of my facebook friends. I vote, but I don't go around shouting my opinions to everyone. Those people are so annoying! Almost just as bad as the commercials and junk mail flyers with candidates on them.
I'm waiting in line to vote right now and it's freezing. That absentee ballot would have been a great idea.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't I think of the absentee ballot??? I can bring the ladies to "vote" I suppose! I'm so glad the day is here so the commercials can stop!! What is kombucha? It sounds great!
ReplyDeleteWe do the absentee ballot, too. So much easier!
ReplyDeleteNever tried Kombucha. I guess I should:)
ReplyDeleteI did early voting to avoid the lines but haven't done absentee, maybe I'll try that next time!
ReplyDeleteI stopped voted by absentee ballot after 2000 when I found out that the absentee ballots are really only counted when there is a close race. Well, everything is counted eventually, but there's no rush to count absentee unless it's close.
ReplyDeleteI think the Founding Fathers were rather genius in setting up the Electoral College. It does make sense once you really learn about it.
we vote by mail here in Oregon - you can mail it up to a certain day or drop it off at a official ballot place if you wait to long. It's SOOOO easy and convenient. Although when I used to "go to the polls" it made voting feel like more of an event. But, I definitely appreciate the convenience of mail in voting. Never tried Komboucha...
ReplyDeleteI don't really get the electoral college. It seems ridiculous that the popular vote wouldn't carry an election, and yet we know that that can happen. But regardless of the details, I'm so thankful today to have been able to vote. And to stand in line to vote with my friends and neighbors. It's a wonderful thing. And, I ran to the polls--got my run in while doing my civic duty!
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of the Electoral college but also I don't think I fully understand it. If Ohio always decides the president why do we bother voting? Also how do we fire Ohio ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have never tried Komboucha, tell me more.
I've never tried kombucha, but now I have to look it up. I'm indifferent about the electoral college. I think there's only been a couple occasions where the electoral college elected someone who didn't win the popular vote.
