I went to a chiropractor on Friday to make sure it wasn't anything he couldn't realign and magically fix..wishful thinking. He pretty much confirmed muscle strain and while he wouldn't tell me I couldn't run, as did an orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday, but if I did run I wouldn't get better faster./
So I cried a little, felt sorry for myself A LOT and decided it would be better to sit out a race I have been so excited for since I did it last year and hopefully be up and running again sooner than later. Right now it is a grade 1 strain and with any luck I can be healed in 10 or so days.
I of course did not do myself any favors with my long trail run last weekend and a 3.5 mile run Thursday, but other than that I have done NO RUNNING. NONE. I feel a little crazy and seriously lacking in appetite (at least compared to my normal voracious eat everything in site appetite)
My plan is to continue resting this coming week until I feel no discomfort at all. All the while doing some stretches, compressing, massaging and going back for another ultrasound treatment on Monday. My chiropractor said it would help me heal faster.
I will have to ease back into running and that might be the hardest part. I know I will want to just pick up where I left off. Ugh
SO instead of doing both the 5 and the 2 mile this morning, I just did the 2 mile with my daughter.
I looked at the results this afternoon and I know I would have won my age group and placed high overall, bummer but no sense in worrying about what could have been.
FORWARD PROGRESS!!
My time for the two mile 33:58! My daughter did really great for the first mile and ran a lot of it and then decided she was over it and when were we going to be done!! She even got her own Beef shirt to wear.
Overall I am glad I didn't run the 5 today, I think it would have made things worse. It still seems like little consolation right now as wonder what might have been. Heal leg, HEAL
I just hope I use this as a lesson in taking time to recover. As much as I want to believe I can do anything, my body apparently has limits. Seriously doesn't fit in with my wonder woman self image.
What's Beautiful update... 17 lovely people have joined my team. Thanks all. I am throwing it down to you all to to the pushup challenge and see how many you can do without stopping, or try the burpee one and see how many burpees you can do in a minute. See my throwdown challenge HERE on my profile page. I might have ranted a little there.
If you want to join my team and I haven't invite you, go HERE and request an invite. I would love to have you. Feel free to post challenges and pictures of yourself there too.
It is soooo hard to sit still even when you know the rest is what you need the most. Glad the 2-miler went well!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard! Thanks
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you are hurt
ReplyDeleteI know how frustrating it is
I am in that same boat
It sucks
I will have a DNS on June 1st...my half marathon PR race last year and I wanted to go back to get a other one!
But no....
And I have cried also....and I still do....and I cannot wait to be all better
I have a feeling you will get there before me:)
Deciding to not run a race is one of the hardest things EVER. Sounds like you made a good call, though :). So fun that you still got to run with your daughter- I love running with my kids.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are heeding the advice and resting your leg! Prayers for a fast recovery!
ReplyDeleteHope your muscle strain gets better soon! 10 days isn't that long, you're still a wonder woman, and you'll bounce back quickly - quicker than not resting anyway.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter did great, good on her!
that really sucks about your leg. we are in the same 'no running' boat though. i've learn we that once you accept that running is out of the question for a while it is easier to deal with. i'm still a major grouch most days because i need my fix, but thank goodness for cross training :) get better fast!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a tough situation, I'm really sorry! Glad you were able to run with your daughter! Hope you are back to normal in no time!
ReplyDeleteits always hard to sit out races, but 10 days isn't too bad. Hopefully you'll come back and be even stronger. Glad you were still able to do the 2 with your daughter, great mom / daughter time :)
ReplyDeleteSorry about the 5 mile race, but it looks like you made the best out of the situation. I hope that you heal up quickly.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun with your daughter - you will rock that race next year and really clean up the prizes! Hope you are feeling better soon and yes, if you follow doc's orders and REST you will heal faster.
ReplyDeleteYou and I can rehab together. My ITB is pretty shot right now, so I DNFed the Delaware marathon yesterday. SO MUCH FUN!
ReplyDeleteIt's the big picture, you are doing the right thing. But I know how very hard it is.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter did great! I love running with my kids!
Smart call to DNS. I love that you were still able to do the 2 mile with your daughter - great photo!
ReplyDeleteI always hate to stop by blogs and hear people are hurt. I'm sorry to hear it. But way to go with the 2 miler!! WOOT!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your injury!! You still seem invincible to me girl. You will rest and pull through stronger than ever. This was just your body's way of saying to slow down. I hope you get some much needed rest. And Wtg to your sweet daughter on her 2 miler!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute picture of you two Christy! I hope you heal quickly.
ReplyDeleteI really hope if I have a kid, that they would want to run races with me. It's so sweet you and your daughter did the 2 miler :)
ReplyDeleteInjuries suck! (Speaking from too many experiences) and if you take the time to let them heal like you are doing, you will be stronger and better off. Just be patient- it's so difficult I know but you'll be back to normal in no time!!
