I thought at first my shoes were laced up to tight. You know that uncomfortable feeling on the top of your foot when your shoes are laced up too tight? I stopped and loosened up the laces a couple of times, but the nagging pain on the top of my foot never quit went away. Jump ahead a couple hours in that day.. last Wednesday.. and I had sat on the floor doing some laundry, sitting on my foot for part of it when I got up it hurt so much I had to hobble around for a bit.
Thursday and Friday at work it hurt a little. Saturday and Sunday over the weekend I didn't run. Saturday I did do the elliptical for 35 minutes, but cut it short due to the nagging foot pain. This morning I am admitting it may be more serious than I wanted to accept. I am thinking it may be a stress fracture.
Which means I have to go back to my mantra from June.
I may be smiling in that picture, but I am so not smiling right now.
How did this happen? I got a pretty good idea. I received a pair of Skora shoes to try out. I have run in them twice, the second time was the Monday before and I ran 5 miles, mostly on pavement and I remember not being in love with them at the time for how hard it felt like my feet were pounding. Even when I tried to float like a butterfly. I changed my shoes out at five miles and ran nearly 7 more for a total of 12 miles. No pain that day, just two days later when I ran. That is the only thing I can think of that I did different.
My plan... no running, no half marathon in two weeks (insert huge sad pouty face here)
See a doctor. Back to yoga, cycling. cross training, and sucking it up.
I'm so sorry. What a bummer. Thanks for the inspiration to stick with "my" shoes.
ReplyDeleteInjuries suck! Hopefully it's just a bruise or something and not a stress fracture! Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteAw NO! I hope it turns out to be something other than a stress fracture. Kudos to you for being smart and knowing your body.
ReplyDeleteGrrrrrrr Christy!!! This just plain stinks!!! I hope it is nothing serious and that you are back at it soon!
ReplyDeleteI had similar pain two years ago an it tended up being a form of tendinitis. A little rest and a slowish build-up and I was good to go. I seem to remember reading it's pretty common after a shoe change.
ReplyDeleteOH man:( I hope its not a stress fracture. Hope it feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteNO! I hope it doesn't end up being as bad as you think!
ReplyDeleteWomp :(. I hope it's just a niggle that disappears!!!!
ReplyDeleteAww...I hope its not a sfx and maybe just some tendonitis. Go get a scan to be sure. Fingers crossed for you!
ReplyDeleteKeeping my fingers crossed that it is NOT a fracture!
ReplyDeleteTwo feelings I hate in the world: that feeling you mentioned of shoelaces tights too tight and when I run in a pair of running shoes and they feel hard no matter how you try to run smoothly. But here is hoping it is not a fracture and it is something less painful.
ReplyDeleteMaria
Hoping you get into a doc and get good news. Hang in there - I definitely know how miserable that is. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSad day! I love my Skora's but maybe they don't work great for you? Sending healthy foot thoughts your way! :)
ReplyDeleteHope you get that taken care of soon and it gets better. But I'm also pretty depressed now ... because based on those pictures, I'm pretty sure you could kick my ass. Just gonna go find my purse.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Hopefully it's not serious. Get a scan as soon as you can!
ReplyDeleteUGH!!! I am so sorry and hope that it is nothing serious. I doubt you have a stress fracture, but it wouldn't hurt to see a doctor just to be safe.
ReplyDeleteman i feel so bad with all these nagging injuries you've had to deal with. Its amazing how some of the smallest changes can yield so large results (good or bad)
ReplyDeleteHope the foot feels better in no time.
Oh, how annoying :( Hope the rest and yoga sort it out nice and quickly
ReplyDeleteI am SO sorry you have to go through this! Injuries are just endlessly frustrating. Fingers crossed for you SO HARD that you are wrong about it being a stress fracture and it 's something minor!
ReplyDeleteYep, same thing happened to me after I switched to Lock Laces and cinched them too tight. Same symptoms. Turned out to be extensor tendonitis. I did have to take some time off, RICE, and when I resumed I KT-taped it following these instructions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=By5ztNxwgYY
ReplyDeleteI still (9 months later) have to make sure I wear my shoes very loose - I can literally slip them off and on like slippers - to keep the tendonitis from flaring up. It leads to more black toenails, but at least my foot feels fine!
PS: I had to take 1 month off, but some of that was due to the fact that I continued running on my foot waaay after I should have quit and kept trying to come back too soon. I finally healed when I stopped running completely for 3 weeks and then restarted very slowly. If this turns out to be your problem, just remember that this is something you simply cannot run through. It is also something totally recoverable!!!
