Things I Read This Week

1. I have a love hate with my elliptical, it's really great when I am injured and can't run, but I so wish I had a treadmill.  I never feels like the workout is as good so I was glad to read on Runner's Connect yesterday that it is a viable cross training workout for runners.  You can check out the article here

Here is a little snippet
2.  I don't watch Biggest Loser anymore and am not going to say much about it, except when it's a contest and there is money involved people go to extreme measures.  I wonder how many contestants are able to maintain their weight losses without the money motivation and the trainers helping them.  I just don't think it is realistic.  I think it teaches some good things, but overall thumbs down.

3. I found Women's Health Magazine's article on "Five Signs You're a Fitness Snob" a little condescending and annoying. Seriously can't we all support each other?  What's wrong with being proud of your accomplishments and wanting to wear quality clothes while doing it? I don't wear Lululemon underwear, but I do like to workout in quality comfortable and horrors, cute clothes.  I find it more motivational to like the things I am wearing. If I take an after workout selfie, it's because in that moment I am happy and want to share.  Why I usually really like that magazine, but thumbs down on that one.

  1. For #2, I'm kind of hoping the extremeness of Rachel's weight loss was just that, for the money. Then, now that she's won the show, she can start eating an exercising a normal amount and regulate her body weight.

  2. That Women's Health Magazine thing--that doesn't even seem like real journalism to me. Just some stupid fluff thing to fill some space.

  3. I agree with you on #3! I don't do what I do to be a snob...I wear nice things because it makes me feel good and they perform most times better than the cheap ones.

  4. Great topics, here! I wasn't able to use the elliptical at all this time w/ my injury and that was ok with me. I have a hard time mentally staying engaged on gym machines.

    Yeah, BL needs to do some evaluating.

    And thumbs down to number three!

  5. Ha! I read the article on Women's Health and had to laugh. Actually I wrote a post yesterday on the article they published the next day: Are We in The Age of the Fitness Snob... needless to say it was condescending also!

  6. Yeah, after watching the BL finale, I had to go eat something. Rachel made me feel like I was starving! Hopefully the trainers said something to her. I haven't read the Women's Health article, it will probably just make me mad!

  7. I love my elliptical ... I haven't had any big injuries, but when I had an issue with my toe and couldn't imagine putting on shoes (for the treadmill) I could still elliptical (in my slippers). This was the first season I watched TBL. I did my thoughts about it (the season/show as a whole, not just the finale) in my blog yesterday (it's ALL over the internet isn't it?). I do subscribe to Women's Health ... but I'm SO far behind. I wonder when I'll get to the article you mentioned ...

  9. I agree with point #2, the first time I watched it, my exact words were "That's an unhealthy way to lose the weight and there's no way they can maintain it". I think overall it's a motivational show, but these folks are isolated with professional trainers for a short period of time. That's just not real life. I kinda feel the same way about P90X guy. Sure, a lot of folks get absolutely ripped in three short months. But most I know turn right back into their old selves when they're done. It's great that they're working out - but I just don't think that most of it can be realistically maintained.

  10. That article ticked me off enough to write an entire blog post about it, which I rarely do and it just seemed out of place in that magazine.
