After 7 weeks of the best fall weather ever I couldn't imagine why I would like running outside in 18 degree weather. I was cold just looking out the window thinking about it. I hate being cold.
Then I couldn't stand the thought of being a big baby about it, especially since the sun was shining.
seriously doesn't looking at it make you feel a little cold? But look at that beautiful sky! |
So I dug around in my closet for my cold weather running layers.
I also added a medium jacket, a hat and gloves. I was actually looking for my "Suck it up Buttercup" tank. but couldn't find it. "Be Epic" worked too I guess.
By the time I got dressed, quit procrastinating and started running the sun was no longer shining. Insert sad face here. Half a mile into the run my face was freezing and I was wondering if I should go home and get a face mask thingy or just go home. I didn't want frostbite on my face.
Sun! Where did you go? |
We aren't even supposed to hit freezing until next week so I guess I better just get used to it.
I will say it's the best I have felt running in several weeks and once I got past the my face is going to freeze and fall off stage I loved it. The pace felt so effortless. I remember now why I love winter running.
The hardest part about winter running for me is often getting out the door and maybe that first half mile to a mile until I get warmed up.
What is the hardest part about it for you?
If you haven't already check out my Armpocket giveaway.
The hardest part for me is the beginning of a cold workout and the end - if my toes feel numb from the cold. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteWhoah, you really do have some winter weather there! The coldest it's gotten here is the 30s. I always find I warm-up between 1 and 2 miles....if I'm warm before mile 1, then I'm going to be too hot and if I'm still cold at mile 2, then I'm going to be cold!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree--it's all about getting out the door. I've been at it enough years that I know that, thankfully, and can give myself that push and go on to enjoy it. Good for you for getting out there and relearning it. I hope my turn doesn't come too soon!
ReplyDeleteDealing with the same today! I can't get over how it was 65 and sunny on Saturday at the Moab race and today I'm looking at a high of 17 degrees. But, it also means beautiful solitude on the trails!
ReplyDeleteWow. I never have to worry about anything lower than mid 20s. But, I do find it so much easier to run in cold weather than hot...and that is what gets me out the door.
ReplyDeleteI am totally the same way about running in the cold! It takes a mile or so to really get fully warmed up, but then there's something about it that does make it somehow seem easier. I can't explain it! Often, when it's super cold, I'll start by doing about a minute of jumping jacks to "jump start" (har har!) the warming process. I think it really helps! Keep up the good work! I really love your blog! :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you were embracing the shorts weather last week, and the snow this week!
ReplyDeleteIt just goes to show that the right attitude is key - something I need to remember as our weather here gets more humid and tougher for running!
What kind of gloves do you wear for those super-cold runs? I have tried so many pairs, and I cannot keep my hands warm.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had such a great run in the cold! The hardest part is just getting started for me or putting on too many layers and ending up hot.
