I ran the first two days of the year and was certainly planning on running on the 3rd, but since I didn't feel overly great I ended my streak by taking a nice long afternoon nap instead of going for a run.
Winter is settling in here. This picture is about two snowstorms behind.
Luckily I don't mind running in the snow and cold because it doesn't appear to get much better for awhile. I haven't set any new year's resolutions. I don't think I really did last year either, just listed a few things to work on like doing more yoga, running healthy, and getting more organized.
I did really good with everything except the getting organized. That goes is waves. Turns out, I would much rather go for a good run or play games with my kids than worry about being super organized.
I may still set down some goals or whatever for this year, but I one of them won't be some sort of crazy run streak. Some days it just doesn't work out to get in a run and I don't want to be stressing about it. I know lots of people streak, it just isn't my deal.
Are you a streaker? A goal setter? Would you rather be organized or get your run in?
I've done a run streak before - from Memorial Day to the Fourth of July. Some days it was easy; other days I found myself on the treadmill at 9:00pm just to get in one mile.

I'm not a streaker. However, if I got dressed to run I would want to do at least my regular short run - 4 miler. I should be running today, but it is so gloomy out. Maybe later. A nap sounds good, after I get the rest of my Christmas stuff in the attic!

My goals are the same as last year - do all the right things like eat well, warm up properly, strength work, etc, to stay injury free. But I want to enter a few different races to last year. A marathon is on that list but I need a longer injury free period before I commit fully to that one.

I was never a streaker- except for not taking days off when I did triathlons, I had a 60 something day streak of 30+ minutes of some form of exercise. The day I took off I felt horrible. Always listen to your body (you now that!) Naps are awesome anyway- consider it a recovery session!!
ReplyDeleteMy one and only attempt at a streak was last summer and I was injured before it was over. Rather, I got injured so it was over. No plans to do it again. Don't do resolutions either. I'd rather my place be a mess and have a good run in then be organized and not have moved my body.

ReplyDeleteI am decidedly not a streaker. I value my rest days way too much, and sometimes, things happen. I do set goals quite frequently though. It's always good to have something to work towards.

I am not a streaker, either. Running one mile on rest days seems like a pain -- get all bundled up (or sweaty on the treadmill) and go for less than ten minutes? Nah.

ReplyDeleteJust found your blog! I will attempt to run 2,015 miles in 2015. So far so good, but it will definitely be a challenge. :) However, I do like to be organized from time to time.
